Probably the greatest team ever in F1

In October 1958, 66 years ago, a British team won the inaugural World Constructors Trophy (WCC) beating the mighty Ferrari into 2nd place.

The importance of this victory is oft overlooked. Esteemed publications list 'the most important F1 cars of all time' and a Vanwall car rarely, if ever, gets a mention.

Any team leader of people, whether in sport, business, even University Challenge, will acknowledge the power of team mindset.

Tony Vandervell led a great team who working together built the 1958 car to achieve a staggering 66.6% win ratio shared between Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks - 6 victories out of 9 races. They showcased the power of teamwork, much like the dynamic flying V-formation of geese where the best, tight V boosts strength and endurance to give them over 70% more range.

The Vanwall win changed the GB mindset. Until then, always the gallant losers in F1, thereafter Britain secured more race wins and WCC points than any other country. Such was the transformation led by Vanwall that more F1 teams are still based here in Great Britain to this day than in any other country.

The 1958 Team Vanwall and their car did something extraordinary for Team GB. They created a winning mindset for British-based teams, which prevails to this day.

We salute all other F1 teams based here, but be assured, it was Vanwall who led the charge.
